Pre-analyticsmeasurements

1.Request form

Pleaseenter all data on the Request Form in a readable form. Age or date of birth isimportant due to different reference ranges. Please enter your name or clinicin the right upper area. Please stick the ID number below on the sample tube. The correct identification of the patient sample is only guaranteed by thisnumber.

2.Conditions

Laboratoryinvestigations can be highly efficient and can contribute to 70% in finding theright diagnosis. Pre-analytical factors such as storage, transport, splittingof samples etc. may significantly influence the results.

3.Vacutainers/Clotted Samples/ Splitted Samples/ Sample/ Volume

Wecan provide vacutainers/vials/containers for blood/other samples to all ourcustomers. To obtain serum, whole blood samples should be left for 20–30minutes prior to centrifugation in order to allow a complete clotting in thesample.

4. EDTA tubes and Citrate tubes:

Immediatelyafter blood collection the tubes which contain EDTA or Citrate must be mixedwell several times (shake gently).

5. Splitted samples:

Inaddition, splitting of samples is known to lead to patient sample confusionsalready in the clinics. If ever possible, we would kindly ask for sending usthe original tubes.

6. Leaking vials:

Leakingvials are dangerous for your personnel and our personnel including non-medicalstaff, like drivers and receptionists. Please use closed systems as providedfrom us.

7. Sample volume:

Itis important to fill up the vacutainers containing citrate for ESR orcoagulation parameters to the mark on the tube (due to standardized dilution!).

8. Haemolysis:

Bloodcollection by using vacutainers after strong and long venous congestion maycause hemolysis (which can interfere with a significant number of tests).

9. Coagulation parameters:

Coagulationparameters are sensitive to storage > 4 hours. As a consequence, we willmeasure an increased clotting time or decreased activities. Si it should beavoided.

10. CBC`s:

Amanual or machine blood differential is difficult to interpret when the bloodsample was kept > 4hours. The blood cells are more vulnerable and showsignificant different morphology (typical flag shown in 2 dimensionallaser/impedance measurements).

11. Stapling of bags:

Pleaseavoid the stapling of bags. Kindly use the adhesive flap to seal the pouches.

12. Microbiology/ sensitive germs: (Gonococci,Meningococci, and Anaerobs).

Longstorage of samples leads to damage of sensitive germs such as gram negativediplococci, gonococci, meningococci and others. Please avoid long storage.

13. PCR HCV/HBV and others:

Pleasedo not open the vacutainers (or split samples) designated for PCR analyses. Thesensitivity of virus detection analyses reaches up to 100 DNA/RNA copies/ml.The probability of contaminating the samples in non-separated laboratory unitsis very high.
